Cunnilingus, derived from the Latin cunnus (vulva) and lingere (to lick), literally means “licking vulva.” But oral sex is not just about licking—sucking, stroking, blowing air, humming, and nibbling are some ofthe many ways ofpleasuring the vulva orally.
Every woman enjoys different techniques, ways of being touched, amount oftime spent, and types of pressure for oral sex. The only way to know is to ask, either before you begin or while you’re trying to please. Some vulvas enjoy a firmer, more direct tongue penetration, while others prefer an indirect sucking on the lips and clitoral hood.
Don’t forget that the vulva is more than the clitoris (and the clitoris itself has many dimensions), so explore inner thighs, outer and inner lips, and the perineum as well. What someone enjoys may change over the course of one evening as the session goes on.
Pay attention to your partner’s body and verbal language as an indicator of how it’s going. An “ouch” means stop and ask! Speaking of the clitoris, some women find direct touching of the clitoral tip to be too intense or uncomfortable. Sucking or licking over the hood or to the side of the clitoris may feel better.
Some women enjoy a particular spot and, once you’ve found it, prefer that you stay there (maybe forever). Keep in mind that as arousal grows, a woman may want you to speed up or slow down, change the amount of pressure you’re applying, and/or shift the location of your licking or sucking or nibbling.
You may want to try stopping for a few seconds every once in a while to generate buildup of excitement and anticipation. Using a mouth and tongue, you can create a variety of pleasurable sensations for the vulva. Try French-kissing the vulva passionately as you would a mouth.
The tongue itself can be used in a variety of ways. The tip of the tongue can be used to probe, prod, and penetrate. The flat part of the tongue can lick, stroke, and envelop. You can draw circles, triangles, or the letter Z or M, or you can write the entire alphabet (or a secret message for her to decode) with your tongue.
A lubricated tongue that is covered with saliva works best, so if you are prone to dry mouth, make sure you have a glass of water or other form of lubricant handy. Depending upon what position you are in for this delicious activity, you may or may not have a free hand.
If you do, using your free hand to press or rub her breasts/nipples or the mons pubis in a circular motion may intensify the pleasure. Inserting one, two, three, or more fingers into her vagina or anus can make the oral experience intensely pleasurable.
A woman may gyrate her hips, stay perfectly still, or even buck up and down during oral sex, so be prepared for possible motion!
